Silent County and Silent City

Silent County sits at the center of the island and contains Silent City itself.

On the surface it is a decaying industrial city slowly losing its grip on the present. Art deco buildings stand alongside brutalist concrete, and the streets are often wet even when it hasn’t rained. Fog rolls in from the Sound and lingers too long, swallowing entire blocks before drifting away again.

People speak of streets that feel different depending on the hour, of buildings that seem to rearrange themselves overnight, and of memories that don’t quite hold together. The city has a reputation for swallowing history — and sometimes people — without a trace. It has a strange, half-remembered quality, as if parts of its own history were never meant to be examined too closely.
